Türkiye became the first country which recognized Uzbekistan on 16 December
1991 and diplomatic relations were established between two countries on 4
March 1992. By 2019, more than 100 bilateral agreements and protocols were
concluded between two countries to lay the legal ground of relations and
numerous mutual high level visits were took place.
Uzbekistan , with its population of nearly 33 million, geostrategic
position, deep-rooted history, rich cultural values and economic potential
has an important place in terms of regional peace and stability. Türkiye
attaches great importance to the improvement of cooperation with brotherly
Uzbekistan in all fields and wishes to further develop its relations
benefiting from the close ties.
Our trade volume with Uzbekistan reached 2,3 billion Dollars in 2019. There
are around 1300 companies with Turkish capital in Uzbekistan. They are
active in textile, commitment, food, hotel management, building materials,
plastic, medication and service sectors.
On 4 December 2016 Shavkat Mirziyoyev was elected as the President of
Uzbekistan with 88,6% of votes, in succession to the President Islam
Karimov who passed away on 2 September 2016.
President Mirziyoyev paid a state visit to Türkiye on on 19-20 February 2020
on the occasion of the 1st meeting of High Level Strategic Cooperation
Council and the opening of the National Library in the Presidential
compound.
Our bilateral relations continue to boost in every field and high level
visits are expected to continue in the coming period ahead.
