Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu, who is in New York to attend the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, has started to have a series of bilateral meetings on 18 September 2016. In this context, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu met with the President of the UN General Assembly, First Vice-President of the European Commission, UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor on Cyprus, Foreign Minister of Slovakia, Secretary General of the Council of Europe and US Congressman Engel. He also attended the working dinner on Middle East hosted by the International Peace Institute.
On 19-20-21 September, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kuwait, and Foreign Ministers of Mozambique, New Zealand, Bulgaria, Belarus, Iceland, Gambia, Ukraine, Switzerland, Sweden, Hungary, Paraguay, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Czech Republic, Mali and TRNC as well as US Senator Johnson. Speaking at the UN Summit for refugees and migrants, and co-chairing the round table regarding international cooperation on refugees and migrants, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu underlined the importance of international cooperation and burden-sharing. Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also attended the Ministerial Meeting of OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, and meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Turkic Council and the Syria Support Group.
Furthermore, President Erdoğan arrived in New York on 19 September to attend the UN General Assembly. President Erdoğan delivered speeches in the UN General Assembly and the Leaders Summit on refugees, and had various bilateral meetings.
