Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu paid an official visit to Myanmar on 12-14 June 2016. During his visit which was the first official contact with the new Myanmar Government, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu had meetings with the President, State Counsellor and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar. The visit provided an important opportunity to discuss ways to develop bilateral relations. Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu also visited the Thayet Turkish Cemetery and met with the local communities including Muslims in the Rakhine State.

Referring to Turkey’s humanitarian and development assistance to Myanmar, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu underlined the goal of developing bilateral relations in every field.
