Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, is paying an official visit to Uzbekistan on July 10-12, 2014.
Within the framework of the visit, which is the first one after 13 years at the level of Foreign Ministers from Turkey to Uzbekistan, opportunities were discussed to improve the relations and cooperation between the two countries on the basis of equal partnership and mutual benefit, and views on regional and international issues concerning both countries were exchanged.
Having met with Turkish people and Turkish businessmen living in Uzbekistan, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu said that Turkish people living in Uzbekistan plays an important role in keeping the relations alive between the two countries and pointed out that off-peak period came to an end, Turkey-Uzbekistan relations will enter a new period which will set an example.
Underlining the the complementary structure of the economies of both countries and the mutual invesment opportunities within this context, he said that $ 1.3 billion trade volume between the two countries does not reflect the real potential. Minister Davutoğlu pointed out that the investment opportunities should be pursued especially in the fields of textiles, tourism and the automobile industry. He also added “ We will organize the activities that will bring the Turkish bussiness world here”.
While stressing our expactation for having some top level visits from Uzbekistan, the Turkish Foreign Minister quoted as saying to the Turkish businessmen “A new era begins in Turkey-Uzbekistan relations. The contribution of the Turkish citizens who consider this country as their own is actually contribution to Turkey. Uzbekistan’s success is our success”.
