No: 40, 9 February 2018, Press Release Regarding Turkey-Africa Second Ministerial Review Conference

“Turkey-Africa 2nd Ministerial Review Conference” will take place in Istanbul on 11-12 February 2018. The Conference, which will be hosted by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, will be attended by the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission H.E. Thomas Qwesi Quartey, Ministers of Foreign Affairs of several African countries, representatives of the African Union Commission and high level officials.

The Conference will provide an opportunity to review the progress achieved in Turkey-Africa partnership prior to the 3rd Turkey-Africa Summit which will be held in Turkey in the upcoming period and to discuss the steps to be taken in order to strengthen the cooperation between Turkey and Africa. A Joint Declaration is planned to be adopted at the end of the Conference.

Turkey was declared as a “strategic partner” by the African Union in January 2008 and our relations with the African Union have gained a long term and institutional cooperation perspective since then. The Conference also has a special importance since 2018 coincides with the 10th anniversary of our strategic partnership with the African Union.
