NO:130 - 22 July 2008, Turkey Welcomes the Arrest of the Bosnian Serb War Criminal Radovan Karadzic By Serbian Authorities
Turkey welcomes the arrest of the Bosnian Serb war criminal Radovan Karadzic by Serbian authorities, whose delivery to the International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia had been expected by the international community for a long time.
The trial of Karadzic will ease the pains which occurred in the Former Yugoslavia and which were one of the most terrrible incidents of the 20th century. This trial will also demonstrate that the perpetrators of such tragedies cannot escape from the Justice.
This historical step that the newly established Serbian Government has taken is a milestone in the integration of Serbia with the European and Euro-Atlantic institutions. This step proves that the new Serbian Government is in genuine cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia. It will also consolidate the stability in the Balkans and develop further the friendly relations among the countries and the peoples of the region.
We hope that the remaining war criminals, Ratko Mladic in the first place, will be brought to the Justice and that this will contribute to healing of the wounds.
