Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu held a meeting in Ankara with Foreign and Defense Minister Simon Coveney of the Republic of Ireland on 27 January 2021.
Following the meeting, the two Ministers held a joint press conference.
Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we were enjoying strong historical ties with Ireland and that our bilateral trade volume target was 3 billion US Dollars.
Minister Çavuşoğlu also reminded that Turkey was one of the most favorite destination of Irish tourists, expressed our appreciation for Ireland’s support to our European Union (EU) accession process and wished them success for their non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council for the 2021-2022 term.
On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu had a VTC meeting with his Dutch counterpart Stef Blok as well, within the scope of the 8th Wittenburg Conference.
Minister Çavuşoğlu stated how to reenergize Turkey-EU relations was discussed, that we wished to enhance our relations with the Netherlands on a positive agenda, and that the Turkish community in the Netherlands was a bridge between our countries.
Later that day, Minister Çavuşoğlu also held a meeting with Minister of Transport Qudratullah Zaki of Afghanistan, congratulated him for his new post, and emphasized that thanks to statesmen like Zaki, who had studied in Turkey, our brotherly ties with Afghanistan were even stronger.
