Visit of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to Hungary, 24-25 February 2021

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Hungary on 24-25 February 2021, upon the invitation of Peter Szijjarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary to discuss the preparations for the Fifth Meeting of Turkey-Hungary High Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) to be held this year in Ankara under the presidency of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary and also to address the Hungarian Ambassadors' Conference.

In Budapest, Minister Çavuşoğlu first visited the Tomb of Gül Baba, which he said was the most beautiful symbol of our friendship with Hungary and of our common history.

On the second day of his program in Hungary, Minister Çavuşoğlu and his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto had a meeting and they discussed the preparations of 5th HLSCC. After the meeting a joint press conference was held.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that we would cooperate in the 3rd phase of the national vaccine, that our bilateral trade volume did not decline despite the pandemic, and our trade target was 6 billion US Dollars, and that our cooperation would increase from tourism to investments and energy to defense industry with concrete projects.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu addressed as well the Hungarian Ambassadors’ Conference on "Pandemic and Migration", and stated that Turkey had a strong cooperation with Hungary during the pandemic, that the issue of migration could be solved by addressing its root causes, and that it could only happen with solidarity and strong leadership.

Finally, Minister Çavuşoğlu was received by Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary, conveyed him the greetings of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stated that we were hoping to see him this year in the 5th High Level Strategic Cooperation Council Meeting, Antalya Diplomacy Forum and the Turkic Council Summit in Turkey, and underlined that we were strengthening our relations with our strategic partner Hungary.

During the visit, Minister Çavuşoğlu also received the cultural artifacts of Anatolian origin confiscated in 2015 in Hungary and expressed his appreciation for friendly Hungary’s support in this process.
