Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia,
Excellency Jeffrey Feltman, Under Secretary-General, United Nations,
Excellency Martin Lidegaard, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark,
Excellency Nick Kay, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Somalia
Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
At the outset I would like to commend the President of Somalia and the UN Special Representative of Secretary General for co-chairing this important follow-up meeting on the implementation of the Somali New Deal Compact one year after being endorsed.
It shows our commitment towards the development of Somalia.
Keeping on track with the 2016 Vision goals such as completion of the work on the draft constitution, law on political parties, electoral law are vital in building the political foundation of Somalia in time for the approaching elections.
Turkey is glad to witness and supports the establishment of local, district and interim regional administrations, paving the way for the consolidation and building of federalism in Somalia.
We hope that the relationship between Somalia and Somaliland transforms itself into a new level acceptable to all the people of Somalia. Turkey has been providing the right kind of balanced support in that regard. Reconciliation throughout Somalia is the vital key to state and peace-building.
We are encouraged by the progress in the country at large in the past three years. We must commend the President of Somalia for all this progress taking place under his leadership. We also congratulate our patriotic Somali brothers and sisters on their tireless efforts and confidence in furthering progress in Somalia day by day. Their positive morale and motivation has encouraged Turkey to keep supporting Somalia resolutely.
In a nutshell, we would say that Somalia has undergone a remarkable transformation with the support of the Somali people and the engagement of the international community.
However, Somalia is at a critical juncture in its efforts to achieve security and stability.
Somali people should be persistent and all parties concerned must work in harmony and in good faith to produce common solutions. There will be Somali solutions for Somali problems and Somalis can solve their own problems by themselves. Somalia should be allowed to lead its own transformation, and in a manner that is compatible with their own circumstances.
Still, all nations have ups and downs in history. No country on the globe could be considered as being perfect, each one has its own peculiarities, historical, cultural and political traditions. We all know the real solution is not an imported or imposed one.
In line with our desire to see a secure, stable and prosperous Somalia, Turkey remains strongly committed to supporting the state-building and peace-building process in Somalia.
Thank you for your attention.
