Economic Relations between Türkiye and Georgia

The two countries have exemplary relations and close cooperation on a wide range of areas from energy to trade and from economy to education and culture. Türkiye ranks the first biggest trade partner of Georgia with a bilateral trade volume of 1.85 billion USD in 2019. Turkish contracting firms have successfully completed 258 projects (total value of 4.8 billion USD) in Georgia so far.

Turkish-Georgian relations, free from political problems, develop in line with the principles of equality and non-interference in internal affairs. As a sign of exemplary bilateral relations, the citizens of both countries enjoy a visa-free regime for touristic travels.

In addition, Turkish and Georgian citizens are able to travel to each other’s country with their national identity documents (without passport). Thanks to all these developments, 1.995.254 Georgian tourists visited Türkiye in 2015.

Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) Project, passing through Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Georgia, was completed on 1 July 2019. TANAP Inauguration Ceremony for European Connection was held on 30 November 2019 in Ipsala/Edirne hosted by the President of the Republic of Türkiye H.E Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Prime Minister of Georgia attended the ceremony together with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidential Council Member Šefik Džaferović and Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia Maja Gojković.

In addition to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Oil Pipeline, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway which was inaugurated on 30 October 2017, is a robust example of the regional cooperation between three countries.

The Declaration on the Establishment of the Joint Economic Trade Committee was signed during the Türkiye - Georgia HLSC Second Meeting on 23 May 2017, in Tbilisi.

The last Joint Economic Commission was held on 19 November 2019, in Ankara.
