First Meeting of Turkey-Iran High Level Cooperation Council held in Ankara

On June 9, 2014, the First Meeting of Turkey-Iran High Level Cooperation Council was held in Ankara. Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President of Iran, Dr. Hassan Rouhani co-chaired the HLCC meeting.

At the joint declaration adopted at the conclusion of the HLCC meeting, it is underlined that the two countries are willing to further strengthen their relations on the basis of international law and good neighborly relations and in areas of mutual interest. It is also stated that the two countries emphasized the importance of improving economic and commercial relations which will further the well-being of the peoples of their region and contribute to the improvement of regional stability.

Joint Declaration between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran

Speaking at the joint press conference Prime Minister Erdoğan recalled that Turkey and Iran are the deep-rooted states of the region and their friendship dates back to older times than the history of many states. Stating that they want bilateral relations between Turkey-Iran to further develop, Prime Minister Erdoğan said that it is aimed to expedite the necessary procedure so that the Preferential Trade Agreement comes into force.
