Joint Press Conference by Foreign Minister H.E. Hakan Fidan with Foreign Minister of Jordan H.E. Ayman Safadi, Foreign Minister of Iraq H.E. Fuad Hussein, Foreign Minister of Egypt H.E. Badr Abdelatty, and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission H.E. Kaja Kallas, 14 December 2024, Aqaba

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen,

At the outset, I would like to thank Minister Ayman Safadi for hosting this meeting. And, once again our region is going through a very historical time, and we today have come together to discuss about Syria and Syrian people.

Syrian people deserve to live like the rest of us: Secure, free and prosperous. And the stability of Syria is important for the region and beyond.

We all need an orderly, inclusive and Syrian-led transition process.

During this historical time, transition, state institutions must be preserved and if necessary, reformed.

Territorial integrity and unity of Syria must be protected under all circumstances.

Syria’s rich social fabric should be preserved. All minorities must be respected.

So, I would like to give a message to our Syrian brothers and sisters: Unity, mutual reconciliation and vigilance must be shown in this period.

International community should provide Syria with necessary political support and humanitarian assistance on all these issues.

We can never allow terrorism to take advantage of the transition period.

We have to coordinate our efforts and learn from the mistakes of the past.

Any misstep could lead to irregular migration flow.

And in the meantime Israel should stop immediately.

The following days may not be easy. But as Türkiye, we will stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Syria.

Thank you very much.
