New round of talks on Iran’s nuclear program between Iran and P5+1 countries was held in İstanbul.

Nuclear negotiations, between Iran and permanent members of the UN Security Council - USA, Russia Federation, China, France, UK - plus Germany (P5+1), were held on 14 April 2012 in İstanbul Lütfi Kırdar International Convention and Exhibition Center. The multilateral negotiations were headed by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton and Secretary of the Supreme Council for National Security of Iran and the Chief Negotiator Saeed Jalili.

Following the meetings, EU High Representative Ashton and the Chief Negotiator of Iran Jalili held separate press conferences and announced that the sides agreed on several issues. Ashton pointed out the importance of establishment of a sustained process and said that sides agreed that the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty forms a key basis for what must be serious engagement, to ensure all the obligations under the NPT are met by Iran while fully respecting Iran's right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. Ashton thanked Turkey for the meeting. Emphasizing that the meeting has been the most positive meeting up until now, Jalili also thanked Turkey.
