President of Romania pays a state visit to Turkey

H.E. Mr. Traian Basescu, President of Romania paid a state visit to Turkey upon the invitation of H.E: Mr. Abdullah Gül, President of Turkey on February 5-6, 2014.

Presindent Gül and President Basescu chaired the talks between the delegations where the bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed; moreover views were exchanged on the regional and international developments that concern both Turkey and Romania.

Speaking at the joint press conference President Gül recalled that agreement which raised Turkey-Romanian relations to the level of “Strategic Partnership” was signed in December 2011 and said “our bilateral relations in all areas are excellent. Our trade relations are also of great importance to us. We are the two countries enjoying the greatest volume of trade in the whole of the Balkans. We are resolute to augment our existing 6-billion-dollar trade volume to 10 billion dollars in the short term.”

President Gül declared Romania to be among the leading countries that support Turkey’s EU membership process and said this support is a state policy of Romania, offering his thanks to the administration of Romania and the Romanian people for that.
