The passing away of H.E. King Hussein Bin Talal of Jordan has been learnt with great sorrow.
The death of King Hussein, the founder of modern Jordan, is a loss not only for the people of Jordan but also for the entire international community. H.E. King Hussein was a distinguished Statesman with his boundless experience in international affairs and with his peace-loving personality.
Vast contributions of H.E. King Hussein to the present high level of Turkey-Jordan relations and his sincere endeavour to establish peace and stability in our region will always be remembered with respect.
The Republic of Turkey will continue to maintain its close and fraternal relations with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan also during the reign of H.E. the King Abdullah bin Hussein. This cooperation is aimed at the establishment of a peaceful and stable region for the common interest of the two countries.
The President, the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, the Prime Minister and the Foreign Affairs Minister of Turkey have sent condolence messages to their Jordaian counterparts expressing the grief over this great loss.
The President of the Republic of Turkey accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs will represent Turkey at the funeral ceremony of H.E. King Hussein bin Talal to be held on 8 February 1999 in Amman.
