Prime Minister Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid an official visit to Singapore as part of his visit to the Far East on January 9, 2014.
Prime Minister Erdoğan was received by President of Singapore, Tony Tan Keng Yam, and met with his Singaporean counterpart, Lee Hsien Loong. During the meetings views were exchanged on bilateral relations and international issues.
Speaking at the joint press conference held after the meeting with Prime Minister of Singapore, Prime Minister Erdoğan noted that Turkey and Singapore with their strategic locations are an open door of opportunity for each other to their respective geographies and that Turkey and Singapore are countries that complement each other. “This visit demonstrates our vision to develop our relations with our close friend and partner, Singapore” stressed Prime Minister Erdoğan.
Stating that Turkey is determined to develop its relations with Singapore in all fields, Prime Minister Erdoğan said “We welcome that the investments of Singapore, which has a significant capital stock, in Turkey has been increased. We want to see the investments of Singapore, currently focused on financial sector, extend to other fields in the forthcoming period”.
Memorandum of Understanding on Counter-Terrorism Cooperation between Turkey and Singapore was signed before the press conference.
As part of his contacts in Singapore, Prime Minister Erdoğan also met with Speaker of Singapore Parliament, Halimah Yacob.
