The Embassies of the two countries were mutually opened in the beginning of
2013.
Our President’s visit on March 3, 2016 to Guinea was the first ever
presidential visit paid to this country from Türkiye and it made a historic
progress in our bilateral relations. Following the visit in 2016, the
President of the Republic of Guinea, Alpha Condé, attended the 13th Islamic
Summit of the OIC on 14th-15th of April. He paid an official visit to our
country between 26-30 December 2016.
In 2017, President Condé, in his capacity as Chairman of the African Union
attended Türkiye-Africa First Agriculture Ministers Conference and
Agriculture Business Forum held between 27-28 April 2017 and had a
bilateral meeting with our President Erdoğan in Istanbul on April 28.
Subsequently attended the D-8 Summit held in Istanbul on 20 October and
then the OIC Islamic Extraordinary Summit held on 13 December 2017.
President Condé has visited Türkiye in 2018 on the occasion of OIC
Extraordinary Summit held on 18 May 2018 and the inauguration ceremony of
President Erdoğan. In 2019 President Condé has participated in the opening
ceremony of the Çamlıca Mosque on 3 May and
OIC High Level Public and Private Investment Conference on 8-9
December.
The first meeting of the Joint Economic Commission (JEC) which is
established within the framework of Trade, Economic and Technical
Cooperation Agreement signed in 1997, was held in Conakry between 12-14
June 2002 and the second between 16-18 April 2013 in Ankara. Third JEC
Meeting was held in Conakry between 26-27 November 2019.
The Turkish-Guinea Business Council was established during our President’s
official visit to Guinea on 3rd March 2016. During the said visit a
business forum as well was organized by the Foreign Economic Relations
Board. The second business forum was held in Istanbul on the occasion of
the official visit of President Condé to our country between 26-30 December
2016.
Likewise, another business forum was organized in Conakry on the occasion
of the visit of Guinea-Türkiye Exporters Assembly (TIM) Businessmen
Delegation, held between 27-30 March 2017.
A delegation of Guinean investors headed by Minister of Investments and
Public-Private Partnerships Gabriel Curtis has participated in the II.
Türkiye-Africa Economy and Business Forum organized on 10-11 October 2018 in
İstanbul.
Turkish businessmen mostly operate in construction and service sectors in
Guinea. After President Erdoğan's visit on 3 March 2016, businesspersons’
interest in infrastructure, transport, energy and mining sectors in Guinea
has increased.
The trade volume between Türkiye and Guinea in 2019 has reached to 136,7
million dollars.
Since 30 January 2017, Turkish Airlines has been operating between Istanbul
and Conakry.
Through Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), Türkiye is
providing development assistance to Guinea in various domains. TİKA has a
Coordination Office in Conakry.
Turkish Maarif Foundation is currently running 5 schools in Guinea.
Since 1992, government of Türkiye grants scholarships to the Guinean
students.
