Relations between Türkiye and Serbia

Political Relations

Our country sees Serbia as an important country for the stability of the region and supports its integration with the EU.

Our bilateral relations with Serbia are progressing positively, mutual high-level visits are organized, the contractual ground is strengthened and commercial and economic relations are developing with a strong momentum.

Türkiye Serbia High-level Cooperation Council was established in 2017 and 3 meetings have been held so far. The last meeting was in Ankara on 18 January 2022.

H.E. Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye visited Serbia on 15-16 June 2022 within the scope of the Balkan tour, and “Agreement on Combatting the Illegal Traffic of Cultural Properties” was signed on the margins of his visit.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also visited Serbia to attend the Open Balkan Initiative Summit held in Belgrad on 2 September 2022.

H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye visited Serbia between 6-7 September 2022 within the framework of the Balkan tour. Within the margins of his visit, Türkiye-Serbia Business Forum was organized and 7 agreements were signed in the areas of travel with identity cards, reciprocal promotion and protection of investments, fight against forest fires, advanced technologies, digital government, media-communication, radio-television.

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dačić paid an official visit to Ankara on 26 January 2023 upon the invitation of Minister Çavuşoğlu.

Our medium-term target is 5 billion dollars in our bilateral trade volume. Our country currently ranks fifth after Germany, China, Italy, and Russia among the countries that Serbia imports the most.

The total value of our investments in Serbia has increased from $1 million to $400 million in the last decade. Serbias’s investments in our country are around 41 million dollars.

In recent years, there has been an increase in the activities of our contracting companies. Our companies operating in this field have a business volume of approximately 923 million dollars with 57 projects.
