Diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Uruguay were established by the
Friendship Agreement dated 1929.
Turkish Embassy in Buenos Aires is accredited to Uruguay. Uruguay has a
Consulate General in Istanbul.
Relations between the two countries that have been friendly but stagnant
due to geographical distance and differences of foreign policy priorities
have gained a fresh momentum with Türkiye’s outreach policy towards the
Latin American and Caribeean region that was put into effect in 1998 and
revised in 2006.
The processes of ratification of the Türkiye-Uruguay Economic and Commercial
Cooperation Agreement and the Türkiye-Uruguay Friendship and Cooperation
Agreement signed in 2009 were completed in 2011.
Türkiye’s trade volume with Uruguay has reached to 341,4 million USD
(exports: 42,8 imports: 298,6 million USD) in 2019.
