Türkiye possesses deep-rooted historical and cultural ties with Saudi
Arabia. The Turkish-Saudi Coordination Council was established during the
official visit of H.R.H. King Salman of Saudi Arabia, to Türkiye on 11-14
April 2016 and held its first meeting on 8 February 2017 in Ankara under
the co-chairmanship of the Foreign Ministers of both countries. Similarly,
H.E. Binali Yıldırım paid an official visit to Saudi Arabia on 27-28
December 2017 during his tenure as the Prime Minister of the Republic of
Türkiye.
Türkiye was the first foreign country invited as a guest of honor to Saudi
Arabia’s 4th Armed Forces Exhibition for Diversity of
Requirements and Capabilities (AFED 2018) held on 25 February-3 March 2018,
in Riyadh. A Turkish delegation composed of national defense industry
companies and headed by Prof. İsmail Demir, President of the Defense
Industry, participated at this Exhibition.
On the other hand, former Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Adel bin Ahmed
Al Jubeir, attended the OIC Extraordinary Summit on Al-Quds held on May 18,
2018 in Istanbul, while the Minister of State of Saudi Arabia and King
Selman's Counselor, Prince Dr. Mansour bin Miteb bin Abdulaziz Al Saud
visited Türkiye on 9 July 2018 in order to attend the presidential
inauguration of H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
