Joint Statement Between the Foreign Ministers of Türkiye and Egypt, 4 Febuary 2025

The Foreign Ministers of the Republic of Türkiye and the Arab Republic of Egypt held consultations in Ankara on the 4th of February 2025, which covered both bilateral relations and regional issues of common concern. These consultations took place within the framework of the strategic relations between the two countries, during which both Ministers:

1. While noting that the year 2025 marks the centennial of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Egypt, expressed their satisfaction with the positive trajectory of their bilateral relations; a trend that aligns with the outcome of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between the Republic of Türkiye and the Arab Republic of Egypt, in September 2024, and is evidenced by the notable increase in bilateral trade, which reached a total value of $8.8 billion in 2024.

2. Affirmed their commitment to continue efforts to enhance the investment climate for investors and the private sector in both countries, while underscoring their dedication to further boost the volume of bilateral trade, with a goal of reaching $15 billion, through strengthening economic and trade relations and fostering cooperation in the field of industry.

3. Welcomed the reaching of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the exchange of hostages and detainees, and commended the efforts made by the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Qatar and the United States in this regard. They supported the efforts to ensure the implementation of the agreement in all its stages.

4. Stressed the importance of intensifying collective efforts of the international community to alleviate the suffering in Gaza by increasing humanitarian aid and committing to the reconstruction of the Strip, without any displacement of the Palestinians out of their territory, in light of the ramifications of the war on Gaza, which resulted in one of the worst human tragedies in modern history. They called, in this regard, upon international donors to actively participate in the reconstruction conference expected to be hosted by Egypt.

5. They highlighted the necessity of safeguarding the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency UNRWA, which remains indispensable for supporting Palestinian refugees in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, while emphasizing the need for Israel to reverse its decisions that undermine the role of the UNRWA.

6. Underscored their strong support to the resilience of the Palestinian people and their continued commitment to their land, their legitimate rights and their homeland. Both Countries reiterated their rejection of any infringement to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian People, either through settlement activities and annexation of land, or through the displacement, uprooting, or encouragement of the transfer of the Palestinian people to other countries outside the Palestinian territories, either for short-term or long-term purposes; as such actions threaten stability, risk further extending the conflict in the region, and undermines opportunities for peace and coexistence between its peoples.

7. Reiterated their commitment towards addressing the root causes of instability in the Middle East, through achieving a just and lasting peace between Palestine and Israel based on international law, UN resolutions, and the Two State solution in particular through the consolidation of the Palestinian State on the 4th of June 1967 lines with east Jerusalem as its capital.

8. Underlined their determination to the territorial integrity, unity and sovereignty of Syria and ensuring that Syrian territory does not pose a threat to any country. They underscored the importance of an inclusive political process serving the best possible interests of the brotherly Syrian people. Reiterated their joint understanding that voluntary and dignified returns of displaced Syrians to their homeland. In this regard, they emphasized the importance of combating and eradicating terrorism, and to maintain good neighborly relations with the countries of the region.

9. Reiterated their commitment to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of Somalia, in addition to supporting its Federal Government in achieving security and stability.

10. Expressing their regret and concerns regarding the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has led to devastating humanitarian consequences throughout the country and the region, commend the decision of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council to establish humanitarian hubs in Sudan to facilitate the entry and distribution of humanitarian aid.

11. Confirmed their commitment to support a Libyan owned and led political process under the facilitation of the United Nations with the aim of preserving Libyan security, stability, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political unity.

12. Affirmed their commitment to support concerted and coordinated action by the international community aiming to eradicate terrorism in all its forms, including through addressing its root causes and ideological foundations and combating the cross-border movement of terrorists, and called for “zero tolerance” for terrorism and its supporters.
