PRESS RELEASE OF THE IRAQ CRISIS DESK, 19 JUNE 2014

The acts of violence affecting a great part of Iraq are continuing. In this framework, our warnings made previously for visits to the Provinces of Mosul, Kirkuk, Saladin, Anbar, Diyala, Baghdad, Basra, Babel, Najaf, Kerbela, Wasit, Maysan, Qādisiyyah, Musenna and Dhi Qar are still valid. In this context, we strongly recommend our citizens in the abovementioned Provinces to leave these regions as soon as possible and urge all our citizens to abstain from visiting these regions for their life security.

Our humanitarian aid activities, particularly towards civilians displaced because of the conflicts in Mosul and Tal Afar, which are conducted in coordination with the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency under the Prime Ministry, are underway. The humanitarian aid for 20,000 people sent to the region by the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency under the Prime Ministry are being distributed to our brethren who found refuge in the Sinjar region as of yesterday. In addition, the Red Crescent is planning on providing food, medicine and shelter materials for 10,000 people, to be delivered to our brethren in the region.

Necessary efforts to ensure the return of the Turkish citizens kept in Iraq since 11 June, safe and sound and as soon as possible, are being conducted in a sensitive manner.

The Turkish Embassy in Baghdad is continuing to conduct the efforts for ensuring the safe return of our citizens in Iraq to Turkey.

The Crisis Center, which is also staffed with personnel from other relevant institutions continues its work in the Ministry. It answers the questions and meets the demands from our Ministry as to the situation in Iraq and to our citizens in that country based on the currently available information. Calls to our Consular Call Centers are also automatically redirected to the Crisis Center.
