Nigerian President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo will pay an official visit to Turkey between 23-25 July 2000 upon the invitation of H.E. Ahmet Necdet Sezer, President of the Republic of Turkey, Nigerian President will be accompanied by State Governors, Ministers, Members of the Parliament, senior officials and businessmen.
Following the contacts and talks which will be held in Ankara on July 23-24, President of Nigeria and his esteemed delegation will fly to Istanbul on July 25 to attend a meeting with the participation of the Turkish private sector representatives and leave Turkey on that evening.
In the time of the visit, "Military Cooperation (Framework) Agreement" and "Military Training Cooperation Agreement" between Turkey and Nigeria, as well as a Protocol of Cooperation providing political consultations between the two Foreign Ministries, and a Memorandum of Understanding which contains an Action Plan for the steps to be taken to enhance the relations of two countries will be signed. President of Nigeria will also meet the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and the Turkish Prime Minister.
The visit of President H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo who is one of the most influential and prominent leaders of Africa, constitutes an important stage of Turkish Policy regarding Africa and that it will greatly contribute to further develop and diversify of political, economic and commercial relations between Turkey and Nigeria, one of the leading countries in Africa.
