Within the framework of the celebrations that will take place to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome which was signed on the 25th of March 1957, the Heads of State and Government of the EU Member States have been invited to Berlin on 24-25 March 2007.
There is no established procedure as regards the invitation of the candidate countries to formal and informal meetings organized by the Presidency and it is mainly left to the discretion of the country holding the Presidency.
We understand that the German Presidency has this time preferred to limit the participation to the said festivities in Berlin only to Member States.
Nevertheless, the invitation of candidate countries to the aforementioned event would have been a meaningful approach in demonstrating once again the unity of the European family.
