Ethiopia is an important country with whom Turkey has enjoyed deep-rooted relations. Relations in all fields between Turkey and Ethopia have been constantly improving. On March 2000, Foreign Minister of Ethiopia H.E. Seyoum Mesfin visited Turkey upon the invitation of Minister H.E.İsmail Cem. During the visit various agreements were signed and an "Action Plan" was prepared to be implemented in the following period.

Turkey had decided to provide food aid to this country to help alleviate the suffering of people due to the drought over the past three years that has affected millions of people.

As the first part, the Turkish Red Crescent sent 25.000 US dollars to Ethiopia. Recently, the Turkish Government also decided to send food supply to this country by a Turkish Air Force cargo plane on May 10,2000.

On the other hand, a lot of Turkish private organisations have been providing humanitarian aid to Ethiopia.
