The President of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Dr. Assad Kotaite who came to İstanbul on 6 May 2000 and the Secretary General of the ICAO, Mr. Costa Pereira, who is going to come to Turkey on 13 May 2000 on the occasion of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Communication Conference to be held between 8 May - 2 June 2000 in İstanbul, have been invited to hold official talks in Ankara by Prof.Dr. Enis Öksüz, the Minister of Transport.
Dr. Kotaite, the President of the Council of the ICAO, is expected to meet with civil aviation officials in Ankara on 11-12 May 2000, and Mr. Pereira, the Secretary General of the ICAO will do so on 16-17 May 2000.
The President of the ICAO will be received by the President of the Republic of Turkey.
He will also meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Secretary General of the ICAO will be received by the Minister of Transport and the Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport.
As the head of the administrative and decision making body of the main international civil aviation organization, the President of the Concil of ICAO, had last paid visit to Turkey in 1986, whereas official visits at the Secretary General level had previously not taken place.
It is of special significance that both visits take place at a time where major re-organization is currently underway within the civil aviation administration in Turkey.
