Turkey has decided to join the Police Force of the UN Transition Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) established by UN Security Council Resolution No:1272 (99) dated October 25, 1999.
The Turkish police force consists of 19 officers and was selected among the personnel of the Turkish General Directorate for Security by an exam organized by the UN Civil Police Unit. The Turkish force left Turkey on May 16, 2000 to join the UNTAET.
Two Turkish military officers are already serving within the Military Observer Group of the UNTAET.
